APS Udhampur Shines in Northern Command Basketball and Chess Tournaments

Army Public School, Udhampur has made a remarkable mark in the Northern Command Cluster-A Inter APS Tournaments, showcasing exceptional talent in both basketball and chess. In the basketball tournament held at APS Dhar Road on September 22-23, 2025, the APS Udhampur boys' team dominated the competition, defeating APS Srinagar with a score of 29-6. The team's success is attributed to their hard work, dedication, and expert guidance from their coach, Mr. Manjeet Singh. The school administration praised the team's achievement, highlighting the school's commitment to promote sports nurturing young talent. In the chess tournament held at APS Udhampur, APS Udhampur emerged as the overall winner in both the girls' and boys' categories. The opening ceremony of the Northern Command (Cluster-A) Inter APS Chess Tournament was inaugurated by Col MS Rawat (Retd), Director AWES Northern Command. The best players in the girls' category were Miraaya Sharma and Khanak Sharma from APS Udhampur, who achieved an outstanding 5/5 points. In the boys' category, Utkarsh Kumar Singh from APS Srinagar and Adil Johnson from APS Dhar Road stood out with the same impressive score. The tournament officials, Mr. Ankush Bhardwaj and Mr. Raman Gupta, ensured the smooth conduct of the event, while Mr. Rashiv Khajuria, the chess coach, played a pivotal role in guiding the young talents. During the closing ceremony, Lt Col Surendra S and Lt Col Ashish Vatsraj, SO to Chairman APS Udhampur, honoured the winners with prizes. Lt Col Surendra S encouraged all participants to view the tournament as a learning experience, saying, "Everyone is a winner." He emphasized the importance of patience and perseverance in achieving success. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Principal APS Udhampur congratulated the students and coaches on their outstanding achievements, saying that these victories reflect the school's commitment to holistic education.
