Our classrooms are designed to maximize natural lighting and ventilation. Each classroom is provided with an LCD projector, a white board, a green board and space for displays. For the primary sections, the furniture and equipment have been chosen with utmost care and every room is provided with classroom resources necessary for each grade.
In Primary wing there are 69 classrooms and in senior wing there are 68 classrooms.
The school has two Libraries, one in Primary wing and one in Senior wing. Both the Libraries are accommodated in a well furnished hall and are well lit and ventilated. It is patronized equally by the students of all age groups and the staff. There are more than 10,781 books and 30 periodicals, all taken care of by trained Librarians.
During pandemic, APS Udhampur has taken an initiative to start the service of MOBILE LIBRARY so as to inculcate reading habit among children.
APS, Udhampur has four different laboratories. Three for the experimental sciences viz. Physics, Chemistry and Biology and one for Home Science students. All laboratories are equipped with the necessary infrastructure and facilities required to conduct regular classes & experiments. The store and preparation rooms are adjacent to the main teaching area that allows safe storage and easy transportation of chemicals and instruments to the labs.
Army Public School, Udhampur has four well equipped Computer Laboratories for providing Computer education for all classes. APS Sr. Wing has three computer labs whereas APS Primary wing has 1 Computer lab. Computer Science is offered as an elective subject for science stream at Senior Secondary level. In addition to this, the school has TAL facility extended to all classrooms from classes I to XII.
Language is essential for expressing ideas, opinions, views, and emotions. One of the essential qualities required today is the command over the English language. In other words, effective oral communication is required for success in life. This is made possible by an English lab. The main objective of this lab is to provide practice in an entertaining and interactive way to acquire the 4 main language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In the lab, the students listen to the lessons pre-recorded by experts. Topics such as accent, rhythm, intonation, consonants and vowels are dealt with separately and extensively. This is followed by an exercise. After listening to the pre-recorded voice, the student can record his/her own voice and compare the correctness of his/her pronunciation.
The school has two separate Resource rooms for both Primary and Senior wing. Resource rooms are learning spaces where a special educator instructs and assists students identified with a disability. The number of students in a resource room at a specific time varies, but typically consists of at most five students per instructor. These students receive special instruction in an individualized or group setting for a portion of the day. Individual needs are supported in resource rooms as defined by the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The student getting this type of support will receive some time in the resource room. To help the parents and students deal with the difficulties related to academics, social issues or other matters in a scientific manner, the SCHOOL CONSELLOR is available to conduct counselling sessions.
The school has its own conference Hall. The Conference Hall functions as the meeting hall for in-house meetings as well as meetings with external guests. It is fully air-conditioned and is equipped with the latest and the most sophisticated audiovisual equipment.
In APS Udhampur, we train children in both – vocal and instrumental music. We have music rooms in both the wings. Songs are also earmarked for special occasions like Independence Day, Republic Day, national and social festivals. Students are trained in instruments according to their talent and ability. The school has instruments like harmonium, tabla, keyboard, guitar and various drums. An orchestra/band is formed of students who play various instruments. The school has talented teachers who teach vocal and instrumental music. They are also conducting individual/group singing competitions among students.
“All work and no play make Jack a dull boy ! ” here lies the importance of playgrounds in schools. Students at Army Public School are encouraged to play a variety of sports. Park equipment designed especially for the Primary School children keeps them active and in good spirits. The students who are selected for the School team represent the school at the District and Command Level.
Herbal garden is a wonderful way to use the schoolyard as a classroom, it reconnect students with the natural world and the true source of their food, and teach them valuable gardening and agriculture concepts and skills that integrate with several subjects, such as math, science, art, health and physical education, and social studies, as well as several educational goals, including personal and social responsibility.
The art room presents opportunities for developing varied artistic interests such as clay modelling, painting, drawing, etc. for children of all ages within the context of formal education; the school has two Art rooms for each wing. The students have privilege to work freely in this Art room and to work as a real Art atelier.
School has two multipurpose auditoriums in both the wings where recreational activities and celebrations are organized. It is also used for conducting various workshops for teachers and students.
School is having a craft room for young children to explore and express their emotions through craft. It also helps them to improve their fine- motor skills and hand–eye coordination.
Good health is an essential part of our curriculum. The school has its own Medical room with full time nurse available during the school hours. As a routine the school gets all the students medically examined by a team of doctors of Command Hospital (CH). The medical report are sent to the parents for follow up. DURING COVID, VACCINATION DRIVE IS CONDUCTED IN THE SCHOOL FOR ENTIRE STAFF.
There are eight staff rooms in Senior wing and four staff rooms in Primary wing. Each teacher is given a personal space to keep their reference books, teaching and learning materials. They are also given a cubical to keep their personal and important stuff.
